Wrongful Convictions of Women Panel, with the Institute for Innovation in Prosecution

Wrongfully convicted women face unique challenges. The criminal justice system accuses them not only of committing crimes, but of violating social expectations. Small wonder, then, that wrongfully convicted women are more likely than their male counterparts to be convicted of crimes against children—and of crimes that never even happened.
What can we do about it? Our panelists bring a wide range of experiences and perspectives to this question. From the nexus of prosecution and defense, they will spark conversations that not only bring awareness of this critical issue, but help to generate solutions for practitioners.

Panelists include:
Valena Beety, Professor of Law and Deputy Director of the Academy for Justice, Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law
Marissa Boyers Bluestine, Assistant Director, Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice, University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School
Sunny Eaton, Director, Conviction Review Unit, Nashville District Attorney’s Office
